green shales at the top of the Richmond or well developed at Clinton Wood and to the south east to Hamilton and Niagara Falls. It is probable that these shales were never developed in the Manitoulinis or at least in that their amount was once eroded away. Bell states that the dark of the red Richmondian is seen on Cable Head. There about 30 ft. As I did not see contact between the Richmondian and Clinton the exact nature of these upper rock beds is not yet known to me. [See Aug. 13 more than contact is described.
