Matter has listed an Atoka fauna (A.J.) other
than Ostrin Inida and in it are several species of
Lestirinus. Accordingly I cannot give or much
value to the goniatites seen in the fossil portion of the
Capanne series. In any event Monroe, Raphnela
Meadle Falls, Smithwick are all closely related faunas
in seas with limestone tendencies. The Atoka and
related Lajins begin the cycle of quick deposition
of muds and sands throughout northern Texas,
southeastern Oklahoma, and Arkansas south of the
Arkansas River. There is said to be a break between
these two series of deposits and if there in them can
be no great significance attached to it, it may be
that the difference maybe explained by a marked
climatic change. One passing from a semi-arid
to pluvial conditions, with the greater abundance of
water with the appearance of greater inland seas,
the agglutination of the sands would be worked out to sea
and cause the more rapid deposition seen in the
Atoka, Mann and related formations.
