T. Cade 1959 General Account 31 May - cont- left large ice jams in several places. 1210 - just approaching the Shubelik Mts. This area is loaded with outcrops, castle rocks, and precipices - both low down on the valley walls and high up along the ridges. There is a great stretch of open tundra in the foothills along the Hatakturak River - does not show green but only about 10% covered with snow. Condition does not extend to the coast. 1230 - down on Peters by the camp. The camp is located about midway on the east side of Peters. Absolutely clear and still atmosphere. First really bright day of spring - very rapid melting all day. Stream between the lakes is open in places but the water is flowing back to Peters because of snow blocking at the Schneider end. Lower slopes and fans on the east side of the lake are newly free of snow - those on west side still about 50% covered. No flowers yet in bloom but Salix albaeensis appears
