General Account 29 May - cont- that the upper Colville and tributaries were still ice covered with no water running yet. Ground still largely covered with snow except on slight raised ground. He followed the Pike out to the coast and from Wainwright along the coast, a few miles inland, to Barrow. Coastal tundra still not more than 15% clear of snow; high spots free. 30 May Barrow - Veteran's Day holiday in Barrow - spent the entire day doing nothing, except some letter writing. Barrow to Peters Lake - 31 May 1005 - left Barrow with Harry Brewer for the air force camp on Lake Peters, Bobby Fischer flying. In- termittent good visibility. Tundra still largely snow-covered east of Barrow until one arrives at the Colville delta (1120 time). The lower river, at least, is open and flowing. On the delta islands and on the adjacent mainland east of the river to near Olitok Point the tundra is largely gone - only 10% of
