T. Code 1959 General Account 29 May - cont - sea birds, but we saw only a few gulls or kittiwakes - probably too early for the alcids and cormorants. The made two passes by the cliffs for photographs. Passed over the site where the great A-blast is supposed to create a harbour "to demonstrate a peaceful use of atomic energy." Saw no one on the ground there at the moment. 1405 - passed over Pinalvina - continued on down the coast a warp and then cut inland to pass over a low range of hills between the coast and the Moatah valley - direct to Platzelune. Stopped for gas and lunch. Ate hamburgers at $1.05 a piece at Platman's Stove - a bit of midwestern Americana transplanted to the exotic. 1625 - Left Platzelune to follow the Moatah River upstream. I was impressed by the large amount of deciduous woods mixed in with the spruce - most of the large trees appeared to be poplars but there may have been some larch.
