1. Cade 1959 Renewal Account 12 May - out to Smith Lake to observe waterfowl and then over to Chena Bluff, where we saw a pair of peregrines. We continued on around the Chena ridge road and back to College. 13 May - Fairbanks picnic - returned to Chena Bluff in the morning with some climbing rope borrowed from Neil Lords at the Geophysical Institute. Investigated the cliff for nesting by peregrines. In the afternoon we went into Fairbanks and made arrangements about our departure for Barrow in the morning. 14 May 0700 - departed Fairbanks via Wien for Barrow. Stopped briefly at Unalakleet and learned that the oil people will have about 100 men in the camp this summer. There is a commercially operated restaurant feeding off the oil men!
