T. Cade 1958 General Account 20 July - Weather mostly overcast, still and cool compared to previous days. Mosquitoes appear to be developing in numbers somewhat. 21 July - Unmiat - Waited around all day for news about when Bobby Fischer would fly up from Barrow to take us up the river. There were several changes of plane, but he finally arrived late in the evening around 2330. We made preparations to leave at once. Earlier in the afternoon, Idal, Chester and I went out berry-picking. We each picked a 5 lb coffee can full in about an hour - salmon berries. Have never seen such a year for them. About 80% of the blueberries are also ripe now. This berry crop will go almost completely to waste as far as ptarmigan are concerned because there simply are no birds around to utilize the berries. 2 July - Unmiat to Colville River above mouth Colunnu- guik. - Harold Griffin and I took off from Unmiat with Bobby Fischer at 0105, flying in ARL's new float plane.
