General Account
17 June - cont.
The view is low - also the lakes, all of which
are free of ice, and snows. There are very
few mosquitoes - a few large ones staying close
on the ground. Willows are well leafed
out with catkins shedding pollen in ablood
part. Alders are leafing and cones are about
to break open and start shedding pollen.
Euicephorum is past the peak of pollen-
shedding and mature heads are appearing.
Lupinus, Peck's Lousewort and Caltha palustris
are in full bloom. Cornus blossoms one
month back to open.
There seems to be little in the way of
animal life. Fewer wolf-fowl, fewer
passerines than last year. Scarcity of
Tree Sparrows and Longspurs is especially
noticeable. Also ptarmigan.
18 June, Unist, Alaska
It rained fairly steadily but not hard
all morning and off and on in the afternoon,
tending to clear in the late evening. Set
out traps on T4 and T9 in early afternoon
and took a weasel wide downriver port T8
down toward Unist Mt.
19 June, Unist, Alaska
Run trap lines in the morning and afternoon.
Did some skinning later on. Overcast most
