Code 1957 General Account 17 June - cont. The view is low - also the lakes, all of which are free of ice, and snows. There are very few mosquitoes - a few large ones staying close on the ground. Willows are well leafed out with catkins shedding pollen in ablood part. Alders are leafing and cones are about to break open and start shedding pollen. Euicephorum is past the peak of pollen- shedding and mature heads are appearing. Lupinus, Peck's Lousewort and Caltha palustris are in full bloom. Cornus blossoms one month back to open. There seems to be little in the way of animal life. Fewer wolf-fowl, fewer passerines than last year. Scarcity of Tree Sparrows and Longspurs is especially noticeable. Also ptarmigan. 18 June, Unist, Alaska It rained fairly steadily but not hard all morning and off and on in the afternoon, tending to clear in the late evening. Set out traps on T4 and T9 in early afternoon and took a weasel wide downriver port T8 down toward Unist Mt. 19 June, Unist, Alaska Run trap lines in the morning and afternoon.
