Weather and Phenology
16 June
Partly cloudy sky in the north a north west
con turned in weak measuring, and by 1200 there
was solid overcast. A few drops of rain fell off
clearing during the afternoon, but by 1800 it was
clearing again, with intermittent rainshower.
Wind continues from E or N.E. light. Cooler today
than during previous 72 hours.
Birch or dwarf birch are not yet broken out.
Grasses and sedges are visibly greening all around bases
of clumps.
17 June
Completely and deeply overcast at 0900, but began
to break up by 2300, with partly cloudy sky and
intermittent rain in afternoon. Light to moderate
(6cc 5mph) wind from N.E. Another margin noted
this morning on T-4. Wind more northerly in late
afternoon and blowing in low clouds. By 2100
completely, darkly overcast with ceiling of about
500 feet. It is conspicuous now that the Grey-green
units are greening up much faster than any of the
other vegetation.
Noted a few birch buds breaking open this evening
along T-4.
Temp at 2300 out of wind = 4.0°C
18 June
Overcast all morning and early afternoon with
ground fog and some mist. Slight wind from N.N.E.,
Temp at 1300 = 7.6°C Overcast all the rest of day with
light sprinkles in the evening
Noted quite a few lypines blooming today.
