General Account
9 August - Ran traps in moving and took the coal men out
for a survey of the area. S Stirred and wrote notes in
the afternoon. Took up traps on T2 and T8 in the evening.
10 August - Set out traps on T1 and T3 in the morning. Took
Twatters and Slatchers in weasel up wiles and across some
dried up channels to an outwopping across their views - in
afternoon. They found coal. We exposed the veins in a
Kalamazoo and they took samples. Ran the lines in the
evening.
11 August - Ran lines in the morning. Worked on weasel in
afternoon - cleaning out fuel line and sediment bowl. Ran
lines again in the evening. Twatters and Dutchies got off to
Bassaw around 1600.
2 August - Ran lines in the morning. S Stirred in afternoon, and
ran lines again in evening.
3 August - Ran T1 and T3 for the last time and took up
the traps in morning. S Stirred in the afternoon.
4 August - Set out traps on T5 and T7 in the evening.
5 feet west of the clay, heading and vesting.
5 August - Ran trap lines in the morning. Coaseheimer,
the wildlife artist (illustrator of Buss's mammal guide) came
in with some AF people from Ladd. Took him out for a
tour in the weasel during the afternoon. He got observation
pictures and collected a few specimens. I was for targets to
catch a live Givastomys by hand for him. They also wanted
to take back for sketching. Ran the traps again in the
evening.
6 August - Ran traps in morning and evening and Stirred
in between.
7 August - Ran traps in the morning and took them up in
the evening. Got a description of T7.
18 August - Spent the day cleaning up the quarters and packing
stuff for return to Bassaw tomorrow. A party from the
Arctic Survival school at Ladd arrived today.
