General Account
20 July - line and then back to hut to skin and
write up notes. Got a description of T10 and took
photos of T10 and T9. Took up tropes on T10 in the evening
21 July - Spent morning skinning and writing up notes.
Cleaned up weasel, drained it, and guessed tracks in
afternoon. One of the USGS helicopter pilots came in
with the report that MacVieirs had drowned
yesterday in Chandele Lake. He had responded to
the party's SOS signal. The other fellows were
O.K. Apparent MacVieirs and one other were
wearing the lake via Kalamazoo in awful
weather when the boat capsized or was
swamped. MacVieirs did not make it to shore;
the other fellow was in the water for 15 min.
and nearly froze. Fifteen minutes is about as
long as one can take the cold of that water. I
radicated their information to Wiggins at Baswan.
22 July - Spent day writing up notes, cleaning up
cabin, washing clothes and getting ready for
trip to Savier's River with Morande.
John came through here from Fairbanks on his
way to Baswan and was back with the return
flight at 2400. We discussed plans for the trip
to Savier's River. Dr. Wiggins also came in with
the 10th rescue people to get my Kalamazoo boats
to take back to Chandele Lake.
