"General Conclusion. Newfoundland is a part of the Laurentian Shield once or less invaded by the sea during the Palaeozoic but not again afterwards. The Cambrian sea encroached upon this land in the east and west and in the north completely across in the Belle Isle region. Towards the close of Lower Cambrian time this sea was withdrawn in the north and all along the east side of Newfoundland, but over great areas in the east and especially in the south-east the sea continued its presence. Here isolated units conglomerates at the base of the Middle Cambrian and as the strata of this time are far thinner than those of the L.C. it may that there is a time break indicated here. The Middle Cambrian sea continued unbroken into the U.C in south-eastern Newfoundland and gradually encroached the land on all sides. In the north and west the
