Artrophycus is our 4 fur above base and again at about 70 feet above base, saw them twice again in loose rocks. They are here more abundant than usual. My estimates of thickness are as follows: Shawangunk at least ———————— 200 fts. A great deal may be faulted out so that the thickness may be here as great as in the Lehigh Gap. = 5240 fts. Lower Medina shales and oo, Estimated 600 ft Middle Medina sandstones a 25 " Upper Medina shales u 310 " 935" I saw no fossils other than bursons. However I rather think these shales go into Clinton Time. The Soleykill Gap is the least signifi- cant one of those seen with the present area up- stream. Of the Hudson River shales there are good exposures and if fossils are present they should be found here.
