2847 Baske, Aug 10. Thursday. Arrived here last night at 12.30. Left Pucci at 8.30. Raining (showers) this morning. Write letters in a time. In the afternoon collected Lower Devonian fossils in the Baske sandstone about 1/2 miles of the river and back on the hill side. It is on the first cross trail from Baske. Decided a "portage" small collection due in part to Mr. Clarke work of last year. Found Tentaculites elongatus Lep. Platellites, Pen. ovata, Chonetes, Amos- trophia, Leptostrophia 2 sp., Spirifer 2 sp. Pelecypods 4 sp. Gast. 1 sp. Mr. Dixon the American council called and gave us B.J. papers.
