Started early for Preston.
About one mile or more east of Branjer the road rises out of the valley and has bluff on each side. The rock weather readily and has numerous holes of various size giving a characteristic appearance. Fossil none. Horizon doubtful. Top-graphically they hold about the same height as those to the N.N.W. of Branjer and doubtfully identified as Hudson Series.
On going into the valley in which Preston lies we came over green shale, in which we picked up a small lot of fossils Trenton limestone about 10 feet; St Peter sandstone ; Shakespear
