July 7 Tuesday Luray Va. Shaded most of the morning Visited Luray cave pm 8 to 10 A M The cave probably have a depth of 150 feet and is be- neath the surface from 20 to 120 feet This in the Shenandoah limestone in the rhythm bedded zone (a conculent like beds) seen yesterday about 1/2 mile north of Antietam same stone north of Sharps Ferry, Queens, only me sees a fissure but once after the water has deeped down through the roof. The cave drips but little and may be regarded as a finished cave now on the healing down process In many places especially the dry places the stalagmite is exploding. The ground color of the cave deposits is a yellow but in places there are perfectly white deposits. The human bones seen some of which others de- termined by Zeedy, look to me as if they come here for effect, In some of the chambers the stalagmites are small and cylindrical or pointed, in others I just fluted pillars and finally there are roofs with an abundance of dead or hard like deposits.
