Austin, Texas, Jan 11 - Tuesday.
Wrote letters until 11 A.M. Then went
to the Capitol to see the beginning of the Texas
Legislature. Promptly at noon the session was
called to order. First prayer, then the call of
all the members, when they came sworn in. The
Legislature was then in standing order. Then
roll call, when five speeches were made for the
candidate for
came speaker
Election of Speaker
announcement, when the Temporary Chairman (a
good looking and well dressed middle aged
and well set lady) swore in the Speaker who
then addressed the Legislature. I left at
1.25, but the session soon came to an end.
In the afternoon worked on the Glen Art
paper and adjusted the corrections made by
Philip King.
Had P. King to dinner and talked
on Glen (Mt) land his work until 10.30
P.M. Nothing new came out of this discussion.
He is to turn up at Folsom, Texas, and to work
in his degree.
