Seattle, Tuesday March 8 Fairly bright day, saw a little of the Olympic and some of the Cascade Mts., was with Professor O'Carroll the greater part of day. Finished the paleography with him. Told me he has planned to put his collections to sale in case he leaves the Univ. of Washington which appears probable. This would mean a place to work of his collections and as his private income is about $2000 per year, he would have to have an honorarium. Despite of $1500 to $2000 like Huntington only the title of Research Associate and the rank of Professor. In this case he could also offer a course in Geologic and Carbonic Stratigraphy. O'Carroll is now 47 years old and even if gray only 10-15 serviceable for 20 years more. In the evening read Washington geology but got little of direct paleographic value.
