Sep. 9-1909 Thursday.
Very smily day.
Called at Raymond at 9.30 and talked on the Canadian situation.
He then began to show me his Pennsylvanian collections made about Pittsburg. He has fine and dry series of marine fossils from the Potts-mile to 50 foot above the Cones limestone. Even marine fossils can be traced into the coal beds. There are Oricul specien and Ostreulricus. Also has the Chester fauna another 15 miles of Pittsburg. In a general way it can be said that the Conarine fossils drift out going east of Pittsburg.
Will send me a collection of the common Pennsylvanian species.
After the regular marine horizons drift out there still occur calcareous zones with minute fossils. There are ostracods, small gastropods said to be Pupa-like and small things that may be minute crabs. In shale layers associated with marine zones are the so-called fresh-water shells and ostracods.
Once this afternoon as we go out to see the actual recurrence.
