September 7-1909 Tuesday. Left New Haven at noon for New York. Delivered to Story my manuscript on North American Paleography. Later saw a little of Matthews and one of Hermann. In the evening had a long chat with Doctor Charles J. Darlington. Wrote letters to Ulrich, Bostwick and Townshend. September 8-1909 Wednesday Started via the P.R.R for Pittsburgh at 7.45 A.M. Fine morning and a fine day ahead. Pitts is just central sorts east of Reading- hame about 12 minutes. There is one east of Tyrone, Medina at the latter place. Arrived at Pittsburgh at 6.52 P.M. Smoky dark. Staying at Seventh Ave Hotel, Fort Pitt Hotel is directly the Seventh Ave and is a far better house.
