Arrived in Berlin at 7.45 A.M.
Had breakfast and then called on Dr. Clarke. Spent all of the morning to see his collection and left at 12:20 train for Buffalo.
Dr. Clarke's collection of fishes on the Cleveland whale is a very large one and I found in them some of this year. The material is highly interesting from a scientific standpoint but is not showy material. It also appears to me to be badly handled; the bones are often cut into by tools during the cleaning process. The material as a rule is only roughly out. If we could spend $1000 I think we could purchase all the desirable specimens in the collection. If he were aware of this he would probably not sell but I think he could be brought around although he is a very positive and
