Tuesday August 24, 1897 White's account. Freezing cold. Water frozen. Hurry to breakfast. Journey from Lizard Island Ont. Tops other one put up. Per- fect morning. Start at 4.45 A.M. and so on with light wind and tolerably smooth water to Cloture, about 20 miles, reaching the latter place at not 10.30 A.M. See several seals and hundreds of eider ducks, fullos. A most delightful ride in spite of the cold. The sky cloudy till near noon. Falling barometer and clouds spread from west. Lunch at 12. D. and White climb 2200' to Rosals. Collect- ed some shells and plants. Had supper at not 8 P.M. and found water freezing in bucket. Foliage plenty about Cloture, but firesides, erew- tories etc in gorgeous autumn colours, crimson, orange and brown. Monday August 30, 1897 White's account. Clear east wind. Freezes with ice in bucket. My own farmer ears are sore on which I am unable to lie and which are badly inflamed. Especially the left one and it is supernatural. "Whirlers" in Othello and Halle lunch and both him clerk out to locality no IV. Whirlers winds about and his Ramids arthin, or there to meet his coming. My baron-
