At mine school a water poutice in my applied and which I got red. See Whites account ma later page. Sep. 14-97 Saturday. Dark at, Last night was the most painful night I ever put in, did not sleep at all. My finger while cold burnt fiercely and evidently it reaching the [illegible] joint. Have Dr. Lang examine it at 7 before breakfast. He gets a bowl of warm water and pours into it a little Carbolyde & probably a dis- infecant. Washes my finger and examines it carefully and tenderly, He must use the knife free and lo and behold the cause for the agony comes to the surface. Lots of [illegible] puss and florid cozen from the inner side of the third joint. He then applies a little Carbolicie on a bandage and ties up my hand in paper pasted paper and medicinal cotton. In an hour I suffer for the pain. Much matter must come yet since the pustle part of the under side of the third joint.
