"[illegible]" extend about tour or three mile and the heech feed like those at [illegible] and shore along the sea. Here and there the entire hill side shore slipping of the beds. Along the heech the strata are seen to dip rapidly westward and are over run by the basalt seen high in the hills to the east. The beds of this way nothing more than basalt I see commonly traversed by dikes of the basaltic material. The Heech beds are also traversed by dikes. It looks tonight as if the weather will clear and be more pleasant. Hope it may. In White's diary he says "Out there near half fire and I wish it were all fire" Aug 21-97 Saturday Between Christians & Majasalls It rained several times quite hard during the night. Did left instructions with Sam to have breakfast at 5 A.M. but in case the road is against us not to get up so early. It proves that conditions are not very good to go ahead, which are are [illegible] rain and dinner comes down.
