Aug. 20 -97 Friday. Diakornat.
Arose at 6 A.M. and after breakfast finished packing ready for our departure for Augs. At 8.30 we go to Mrs. Hendrichsen's home to pay our last respects. An usual breakfast is at hand and through I have eaten a hearty one in camp, I must sit down and eat more. Though I am unable to do more than eat a small piece of bread and butter with a glass of schnapps and coffee. He has good toast, but fine boiled eggs, and thin slices of Breeland deer tongues, but my stomach is out of order due to all the food things of yesterday.
Our departure from this place is full of the deepest feeling. The Mrs. ask if he can do more for us which of course he cannot and works up by presenting two small fine bottles of Carlsbad beer and a fine seal skin jacket which Mr. White comes in the toss up. A farewell drink of wine in which Mrs. Hendrichsen, an relative, joins is drunk and then we are in the village go to the head to see us off. As we pass away many shout while two natives shoot their guns, and Old Dr. and Poetsman wave high with his hat. We now turn about and are gone away into a hazy air with some rain falling,
