"Columbia, United States of America. Delivered to
my American Council in Denmark". I also
gave Mr. Hendrickson a letter for Lieut Beary
telling him of our arrival and the date of our
departure from Horseshall and Atare Kurluk.
While taking our packages to the store house,
the governor asked me in to breakfast. We have
turbot, bread and butter, canned cake, a lead cheese,
schwitz cheese, meat balls, coffee, Carlstad beer and
Schnapps. A little later a very fine wine served.
He purchased gallons of seal oil for our
store since our petrolum will be exhausted before
we can reach our stores at Atare Kurluk.
Around the houses of the natives one sees
many pieces of drift wood carefully laid away.
Wrote a letter to Lieut R.E. Beary and gave it for
transmission to Mr. Hendrickson.
White and Stickney are enjoying themselves in the
cosy tent with female natives. They are singing songs. More
than 20 people are bundled together in a tent 8 by 8 feet. White
teaches them some of his songs.
We make a short visit to Mr. Hendrickson
at 3:30 P.M. and remain an hour. Coffee, bread and butter
are served. On coming out the weather has moderated
some and the wreath of the neighbouring hills are seen.
