checked. Around the neck there may be a
fur collar or an elaborate beaded piece evincing
daniel imitation. This is followed by a skin
part usually of seal down to the knee. Vertically
down the front of each leg this is a form or five
inch wide highly colored or ornamental leather
strip. The Kamitz are short and white except
the shoes which are dark. Between the Kamitz and
the high-shouldered part there is a garment in folds
of white linen. Ear rings are usually worn.
This costume has many color variations and
is worn by two thirds of the women, the other
third make no attempt at ornamentation. These
are usually the older women. The boys and
women make no attempt to look well. Their
dress is unembroidered and drifts with the wind while
their clothes are those of any other day. They look
dirty but by no means so dirty as the Baffin
Land natives.
On all sides are the dogs and at this
time of the year puppies are prolific.
At 9 o'clock, the native exchange a fish, a
turbot, for ship's bread. They are much pleased
