Aug. 5-97. Thursday Off Greenland, The vessel in pitching and rolling considerably, in a nasty sea, and I am well ahead all day. White mt. sick. Greenland was disputed by Capt. Bartlett and Mr [illegible] at 4.30 P.M. The instruments are on the lee of the land and the water gets foggy, or shipwrecked land, smoother. I eat a little supper and by 7 P.M. I am again in debt although sorely. The Captain is not certain of our position but supposes we are between foggy points an Holsten- boy. He can be thought he saw S. Greenland. At 7.30 on each side of the vessel came cloud like bird rise the "dirty bay dawn". It proves latter that we first sighted the region of Suggerupens. The fact that are an so- far south in the coast of Greenland is due to the great disturbance of the compass in this region. Capt Bartlett intended to come upon the coast much further north, in the region Igediaminde. I was on deck for two hours from 7 to 9 P.M and then retired for the night. Lient. Pearcy agree to put ashore some of our canvass at Atakkindelft and on return voyage to care for some of the fossils at Nia Kormat.
