"there is found in the marshy low places. Where the roots are covered by vegetation the sensation of walking is a pleasant one, as if on a deep velvet carpet. The ground coverations of the vegetation is green, abundantly spotted with white lickers, [illegible], bees, myspitos and butterflies. Our list of plants for the day number about 70 species. Found 3 tradescia, 2 fungi, fruits and peppers. About five P.M. a whole boat appears with a native man, four women, five children, one dog and four papies. Besides this boat had three tupiks and the necessary contents for these tents. The natives immediately began to erect their tents; the women drew mostly of the work. The tupiks are mainly made of seal skins. By 9.30 three tupiks were erected. I know of no day that gave me more surprise and genuine pleasure than this one, for as if one is suddenly borne to a new world cast an adult so that one can be appreciat and expand with past experiences. Members of the Portia party were out in all directions, some eating seal, other deer while some brought in duck. Brilliant evening. Brief at 10.30 P.M.
