The fog lifted by two o'clock and we saw several & Mother Carey chickens: They had small round heads large small bodies but have a white tail. The scenery is beautiful with many sails in sight. Later in the afternoon saw several large splashes some distance from the vessel probably of sharks. At 3.30 o'clock Pilot boat number 8 by salute. There is a very pleasant sunset. The wind is very slight but still there is some pitching of the vessel. The majority of the Porter party does nothing but to play horse with Stein. I retired by nine o'clock on an uneasy feeling the fevers of sea sickness. Provided myself with a cup attached to the bed. White retired at 11 P.M. a little giddiness in traversing my ears? There was a little phosphorescence in after July 20-1897. Tuesday! At Lea, Rose at 7.30 after a good night sleep with the sea sickness fully almost gone. Enjoyed the breakfast. Capt Bartlett says we have gone 150 miles by 8 o'clock this morning. Every now and then one sees a short distance
