Sep. 27 Saturday, Rome, Sa. about nine miles S.E. / Rome. with a buggy drove this morning to Chumbucker. Between the houses of the valley, there is a road down to [illegible] Mills about ½ mile distant and on the banks (Chumbucker calls it Armadale bridge) of Lavender Creek. Just opposite the mill are in a quarry at the creek bridge beside the road to O'Sheas gap, may be seen the following section. Strata nearly horizontal. [illegible] dam here, Rockford, Amudlee. Carramote. Pimplehoo. Armedale / Grouble's two pound sandstone 2 ft. Bridal / Grouble's two pound sandstone 2 ft. yellow shale & fat red shale Spotted shale thin sherry ope and yellow thin fine Sie. All red shale about 2 feet blue slate loose. Shale / sand part flume from house red flaggy iron bound in the house 12 feet line line brick plat wall run ½ line about one mile long.
