Received a telegram from Hayes that he is not ready to go to Rome. Made inquiries about going to the locality told me by D. White. I find it will take two days costing me about 6 to 7 dollars and no certainty of finding what I came after. Therefore concluded to go Bluefields Dr. Va where I am certain of finding the Eile formation as delineated on the Prochontas Plir map. May April From 1897 to 1902 there were occasional earth- quakes here with trembling object came from the east and passed and round along the mountain called Angels Rest. During these earthquakes some bricks were removed from chimney tips. One of which I looked at had the bricks removed only from the northeast side. For prints I can say during one clay latter. The Jeroker Dennis' only the noise resembled gating and grinding could be heard among while the horses and that passed on. The noise was greatest in stone houses, some of the shocks were severe and one lasted all the night, the shocks coming every five minutes.
