Lakeland, Fla. April 11-1936 Left the Lakeland Terrace Hotel at 11 A.M. with my baggage to take the 11.40 train for Washington. Had a splendid winter and did much work towards the second vol. of my Historical Series of N.A. A fine warm day, but all during the last two weeks. The afternoons have been too hot. Went out in tram. April 12-1936 Got to Washington an hour late, at about ten A.M. Visited the new and old N.J.N.M., and the Smithsonian. Called on Mrs Merrick in the evening. Tried to put myself at the Hamilton but they had no room. So I put up at the Powhatan,
