small launches can go in them. Between the Keys there are always open channels through which any of the ordinary small craft can go. The coral reefs in part of Key Key are said to extend out for three miles. The coral reef must therefore be not due about 3 miles. At 1. P. M. walked out on the diaduct and was surprised to see the great velocity of the current flloring into Florida Bay. It must be nearly four miles per hour, and other than it was driven an hour 1 full tide. This explains why there are deep channels (12 to 16 feet here) between the Keys and the inner keys. It is also here that the hurricane of two years ago washed out both mail ahoutments. Arrived at Miami at 5.30 and due to slight rain the air is delightful cool here, stopping again at the San Carlos.
