Thick., 60-75' Farther N. emply (4), Appears on beach at base of fish- remains road down to reach from the high cliff, goes N. to cliff around which Gould did not fit, and so closed the days road. It took me 35 minutes to crawl back to the Bond home distance about 1½ miles. Was not able to determ- nine thickness, will try in it tomorrow. All four emplys seen today have the charactr of D in lower emply. described from earlier page. Particularly the boulders are getting smaller. The intermediate sandstones towards the top, are more em- glomatic and carn-bedded, than those below. The sandstones are somewhat crasser towards the tops, but all are arkasic with an abundance of feldspars. It is these feldspars that give the ss their reddish color, but much of it is due to weathering; inside they tend too greenish. One of these beds in the slipper quarry @maritime emplymate, all are terminal basic ss.
