Friday, Feb 17-1928
Began again on my paleography of N.
America. This time the chapter describing the
various epeiric and proglacial seas.
Last night saw the first of the Mardi Gras parades.
Good but hardly worth traveling for.
Saturday, Feb 18-1928
A very cold and windy day. The thermo-
meter is down to around 460°.
Monday, Feb 20-1928
Finished the chapter on the definitions of
the various seas in my Paleography of N.A.
In the evening saw the second Mardi Gras
Parade. Twenty floats in this one. Lavish
distribution of elements to the distinguished
men on the carriages, great trying to throw by
the people.
Tuesday Feb 21-1928
The great Mardi Gras day, and a fright me
it is. At eleven I go out to see the sights and was
greatly surprised to see extent of masquerading-
forty 1/3 of those on the streets are dressed and
masked. All home made affairs true for men or
women alike. Spanish predominated, but
