Bought of the U.S. Coast and Geodetic
Survey three maps of the Gulf of Mexico and
Bahama areas. A few days later bought
another of the entire Antillean or West Indies
region published by the Hydrographic Office of
the Navy. On the latter began to draw con-
tour lines around the soundings and after
three days or so working was surprised with the
results. Then began to write out what I
thought must be the evolution of the Caribbean,
Antillean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico.
On the evening of Feb 14 I am about
finished with the West Indies study, and
now have a consistent explanation of
the entire area. When I get back to Yale
it will have to be finished by adding the
gology and paleontology of the region.

Completed my Antillean researches, and the
rest came home when I got home. Have now a
sound foundation to take up the geological re-
sults of others and to make the own upon them.
