Thursday, Dec 29-1927. Nashville.
At 9 A.M., attended the Council Meeting of the
Association and saw the election of H.F. Ostern,
Secretary Livingston had sent out a circular letter
to all of the Council asking for candidates and then
were seven or eight more than 23 votes, as follows:
R.G. Millikan (Physics) For first vote Second Final
H.F. Ostern (Paleont.) 13 14 41
T.H. Morgan (Biol.) 16 26 18
E.G. Conklin (Biol.) 1 — —
H.J. Jennings (Biol.) 1 — —
E.L. Thorndike (Psych.) 0 — —
J.C. Prentiss (Paleont.) 7 7 —
H.M. Russell (Astro.) 1 — —
Endorsements were called for before the second vote
and all excepting one are for Ostern and Morgan. Most
isamit was given for Morgan, but because Ostern is
an older man and has the run of the influential men
of his sort he carried it the day. Ostern's first Howard
spoke feeling in favor of Ostern and other he had
done in the evolution cause — it brought Ostern election.
