ed my men to make a detour to the east, following a series of smoothly frozen over old leads. We were abreast of Karsag 2+(4?) miles east of Netchilinsk when we turned and shifted the shore to our destination. The strong vertical basalt dikes which I noted last summer form a still more striking feature of the landscape now with its general coating of snow. Reached Netchilinsk about 4/3 m. few seconds later welcomed by Kolotengwaya. They had a great laugh on me when I came out of the igloo. A young man was sitting beside the window with his back to the light and I called him Koudloko, whereas it was Seremiaga. No attention was paid to this but when I called the woman sitting on the platform Alnadovaq and asked where long wingway was, Kolotengwaya bust out laughing and said that this was wingwingway, Alnadovaq being at Oomnaraq - I had mis- taken the brother for the daughter, some one explaining other thoughts.
