Rock Creek Area G-493B Bottom Measured from base of bentonite under upper Ammudite cone layer. 0-22 Beatonite (Sample 493B #1) 56 Dark gray to black shale, (ventricular fossil) cords at base. (Upper Ammudite zone), rusty streak at top. (Sample 493B #2) 68 Dark gray to black shale, rusty streak (1/2') 18" from base (Sample 493B #3.) 3 to 5 Bentonite 59 Dark gray to black shale 1" bentonite bed at top. (Sample 493B #4) rusty streak 39 inches above base. sample 493B #4 lower 39", 493 B #5 upper 20" 38 Dark gray shale, brownish streak 1/2" rusty streak at top. New device argillaceous coal in lower 1/2. sample # 493 B-6 54 Dk Gray shale, brown streaky - (Sample 493B-7) 22 As above (Sample 493B-8) 2 to 8 Bentonite 47 Gray to brownish shale (weathered) becoming silty in upper part with intercalated thin layers of shaly siltstone. (Sample 493 B-9) 4 to 6 Platey siltstone, rusty, thin micracks. Fresh fossils + comminuted plant material scattered thru. Few clam parts preserved.
