Colorado Springs Sec. 55-1 - Colo Spas sheet locality (1) Location W½ NE¼ Sec 10, T14S, R 67W, in tributary gulley to Fountain Creek which runs N across road aty about top of Gozuvoos. Thickness -- Benton shale - about 40 ft exposed, black fissile with bentonite beds. Base 1/8 silky sh. with irreg inter-beds silt stn - yellowish. (16) 7.6 Sandstone, fine grained, tabular, laminated and cross laminated, weathers with mottled black stain. [Upper 2' relatively thin bedded with partings black fissile shale. Becomes irregularly bedded + silty upward with orange to yellow brown stain (9) 2.2 Siltstone, laminated, progressively more shaley downward, lamine sugill, silt to clay shale. All very fissile to thin bedded. Weather gray with some OB stain locally, Clay sh. is black -zs below. (8) 4,4 Shale, black, clay, very fissile at top becoming somewhat silty - more blocky at base (7) 6.7 Sandstone, fine-med,grn, friable, porous sugillaceous, with beds of black clay shale - in lower 2'.
