Alameda highway cut. Alameda bentonites - Sample 1. Base main clay (what's left of it). Atypical - a soft bentonite deposited to thickness as much as 2' in coarsly cross- rippled area where intersecting crests as much as 3' apart. May be 2 bentonites have separated by silty sh. - Possibly upper is in top of bog. ripple-marked surface sandy silt? silty silt? 1st ss, Sample 1B from here Sample 2. - Bentonite at top of the second shale Sample 3. - Bentonite under facep of 2nd SS. Sample 4. - Bentonitic clay? 1.5' under sample 3 in 2nd ss. Sample 5 - Bent. clay - near base 2nd SS or top 3rd sh. Sample 6 - Bent clay in lower part 3rd sh.
