1994 M. Stanback 3 M. Formicivorus RANT HVHR 11 May See J-K's notes, cap recs For the day they were here, 0800 Still going on. Mauveish ♂ or NOBA ♀ in charge (J+K had Mauve ♂ or the old blue ♂ in charge when they left). Anyway, we got there in the fog r immediately got a sodden ♂ who was "stuck" in the grass. Caught NOBA ♂ in net, a NOBA ♀, the Mauve ♂ (who we finally released after a new NOBA ♀ moved in) we later got him again when he fell in that dang tall grass r Jeremy grabbed both him r the NOBA ♂ he was grappling with. Quit at noon r went home to lap birds. Oh yes, we caught a ♂ that was caught here last year! See cap recs. 12 May 0645 Arrived to a chase, but very dead once nets were up. The sodden ♂ or a NOBA ♀ are very much in charge - chasing intruders long before they get to the granary. One of them bounced out of the net (damn!) during a chase. At 0745 we stopped, took down the net (avec starling) r went back to Hastings for 'ol' Pink (who weighed 82g). We returned, set the net, let him go (at 0830) r he was immediately set upon by the 2 "residents". They all 3 disappeared into the woods. After 5 min, the 2 returned. He gave another try 5 min later r was chased to the NW staging tree (where 2 birds were already). All quiet at 0845.
