10 Mar Ambush! Pull string on top hole, a bird Flushes From
a lower hole. I Tie off, go get pole, return do
a sloppy job of poling the 2nd hole, go get ladder,
return, stuff a glove in the 3rd hole, then another
glove into 2nd hole. I pull 7 (!) birds out of
top hole, bleed them, return + pull 2 each out
of the lower holes! (stupid birds had plenty o'
time to leave - didn't! My lucky day!) So 11
birds - a record I'm sure. See notes For who came
out of which hole (ie who slept together).
According to the Field list, there are 11 birds here.
My guess is that the bird that "escaped" was
the "intruder" that I've seen everytime I've
watched here (including last night - in fact
he went into the 2nd hole last night) who
might it be? Oh yes, 9 2199 (a very light bird)
was released or within a minute was being pursued
over our heads by a Cooper's hawk (?). A
very impressive show. Alas, the hawk caught her
(our yelling + waving didn't help much) + crashed
into Finch creek, we ran over + the hawk
left, + the 9 was Flopping around in the water.
J. rescued her (sacrificing dry Feet). We put
her back in a bag, put her inside his coat, + took
her to the lab + put her in the drying oven.
Also took 1 BM or 3 HM back For laps. Blood smears
e tc. See cap recs.
