1994 M. Stanback M. Formicivorus CV&R HNHR 13 Mar 1040 Checked 93 hole. A starling + 2 bluebirds hanging out in tree, Hmm 23 Mar Roost watch: no one into Fence hole the snag hole across From Fence hole. Kevin reported 2 birds looked in hole (which?) in traditional (corner) tree, then left. I watched '93 nest tree, only to see 2 starlings go in (1 then went to CVI). Damn. 28 Mar 0520 Pole ambush. One starling + a nest start. 0550-0610 Watched granary. One bird made about 6 trips to the high knot hole & removed stuff (I assume it was Fecal) Uh oh! No real noticeable Following behavioral (though I can't say there was no Following - there was some). A Few trips to the live oaks to N. 1 Apr 1100 Hello traditional tree - nuthin. 2 Apr Roost watch (From truck). Bird at/in trad hole, several others w/in 2m. Several birds visit hole (this is long before dark .. like at 1810). They eventually make their way to the granary tree, where 1 bird goes into the knothole & sits awhile w head out. These guys are mate-guarding. As it got closer to roosting time they made 2 group sorties toward 93 hole, 1 to trad hole, 1 up toward Fence hole, back to trad hole, x Finally (I think) up towards Fence hole. Usually went to granary between sorties. Maybe I can net them in the granary w a dawn power struggle tape.
