Gazo
HNHR
2 Apr J. reports ≥ 1500 daughters (HF - the one's we caught) at Gazo going in & out of holes + Fighting with the Gazo 99 (!). 99 painted.
4 Apr 0830-0910 Power struggle. Saw all 3 1500
HF. They're hanging out in the Westernmost
of the big Gazo trees, along with Gazo BM
1808. The Gazo HM 2311 is in the
eastern tree (main granary) with at least 1 NOBA
9. The 1500 99 are very interested in the
typical! Gazo nest hole. They seem
to have divided the granary trees down
the middle - no chasing unless crosses the
line. Very weird. Katy offers the hypothesis
that lack of a single central granary could
lead to this sort of confusion - which is
exactly what happened last year - the Simple
Hypothesis.
Walt goes back this afternoon + verifies BM w 1500 99,
HM w 2 NOBA 99, + no sign of Gazo 99.
K+J Then roost watch. 3 birds into "nest" hole,
3 birds into the upper of the 2 low holes down
in the low tree. Alas, I must forego the ArtT
ambush to get these guys. If only Walt were here.
5 Apr Ambush! I pole the low hole + catch Gazo BF along
with the 2 HM. Bleed, take J8 back for lap
(only saw anything one - boo hoo). Returned J8 later,
whereupon the joined the Fray. [P.S. Birds woke at 0515]
