1994 M. Stanback M. Formicivorus 1800 BNHR 7 Mar On a whim Walt suggests we set 2 ambushes at 1800 (at the 93a nesthole or the uphill hole) We do, Jr W watch r 6 go into nesthole (7th not let in)! 8 Mar Ambush! Caught all 6! (though not without difficulty - Murphy's law etc) Finally bled (249, 435). Released 99, took 83 to lab For laps (1B, 3H). Laps went rather well. Hope they live. See cap recs. 9 Mar afternoon. I have J. census here. He sees 3 of the 4 lapped males. Great! The 3 behaved normally. 20 May 0700 Ambush set at nest (93a hole). Unfortunately, setting an ambush here is quite a production. I'd like to do a T implant here (lots HM), but after 2 hrs & no visits, I guess I'll be lucky just to get the NOBA 8. At 0905 the BM Finally visits, but is too spooked to enter. D.to at 0910. 4 in at 0930. Soon BM - BF in r out like clockwork. By 1030 still no helpers have Fed (much less the NOBA) I leave the ambusher set (it's held by a rubber band) r leave. Hopefully I can convince Walt to do some time. As I was about to leave, a helper landed r spooked, Followed by another (who spooked). I stay til 1100. 1420 Start again. At 1615 he Finally goes in. Pull! The Fucking ball gets stuck. I tug r tug. Woodpeckers Freak. I Finally get it unstuck as I start climbing. I get up take out ambusher r out he Flies! He had never Flushed. Fucking A. Never have I tried so hard a failed so utterly.
