1994 M. Stanback M. Formicivorus 1500 HNHR 26 Mar J. does roost watch. Reports several birds in, but suspects there's a new hole below (just) the traditional hole. I'll check tomorrow. 27 Mar The hole below is a dead-end (+ has acorns in it!). They must've just been landing low. Anyway, I set an ambush (after putting a new string in the tree- yuk-not good placement-but in a hurry). 2 birds in. The 3rd bird very upset- looked like was trying to get the other 2 out. It roasted by self uphill. Surrounded by turkeys (who, incidently, gobble while up in roost trees). Ambush in am... 28 Mar Ambush! Caught 2 HF (so it must've been a wise older bird that tried to dissuade them from going in). However, 2260 was sexed wrong on the Fieldlist-she is a 97. Painted, measured, r released both. 2 Apr J reports these 2 99 at Gazo going in holes r Fighting the Gazo 9! Unaware of this, I send K to 1500 to census (since I suspect a Finch effect) She sees BM r HF, so I'm thinking BF dead since December! 21 Apr Katy reports BF is alive + well (and not a R1 9) So it wasn't a Finch Effect here.
