1994 M. Stanback M. Formicivorus Buck HNHR 22 Mar On my way up to roost watch I hear "peck peck peck" + Find a new hole in a tree @ 100 m 5 at the granary. It's near the top of the tree in a sideways branch. However, it seems to be leaking chips out of the bottom. I roost watch at the uphill hole - nothing. 30 Mar Roost watch the new hole (a little too close but they still went in ... about 4 ?) (late). I'm afraid it's a ladder climb - maybe 1/2 will do. 31 Mar 1530 J. + I hauled 1/2 of the big ladder up r it just barely makes it to (near) the new hole. I set the ambush, then came down. Will return for roost. 1 Apr April Fool's! Bloody hell! I pull the string and out come 2 birds. The ball got stuck on a breaking piece of bark at the edge of the hole. Bugger all. I did put nice new pieces of black hardware cloth on the 2 "leaks" at the bottom yesterday. I didn't cut a door, since I can get in the hole at the bottom - or at least scare them out through it. I did however forget to check for eggs (not that it's likely).I Left the ladder up there - just in case they change mind. 11 Apr Roost watch uphill hole - nothing. Heard birds at granary. 27 May Katy does census.
