1994 M. Stanback M. Formicivorus Chonga HNHR 5 Mar Winter FA's saw only 1 bird here. Jeremy saw only this bird yesterday. He did roost watch 2nite or saw no one! 12 Mar J roost watches again. 3 birds into granary, mounted, - seemed to roost in granary, but not in uphill hole. Will set ambush at the back hole tomorrow. 13 Mar Roost watch o ambush set. Well, they have a new hole just above the traditional backside hole. I set ambush at "trad" hole. Birds roasted very late (1835). Lotsa moving - shuffling (or maybe an intruder?)... I ended up in trad hole, 3-4 (?) in other hole. I won't ambush tomorrow. 14 Mar 1000 Cut open the new hole, set (or tied) a new ambush, secured last nights (what the hell). Will try tonight. Birds haven't touched dogfood; ants going nuts. 1830 Arrive, unsecure the ambushers (snip the lichen I had holding them) - wait. At 1832 a single bird came in (bottom) at 1847 (as I was about to leave the blind!) 2 birds came in from across the ravine or roasted (1 bott, 1 top). Lesson? Don't leave 'til dark. 15 Mar Beware the ides of March. Lots went wrong - namely 2 of the 3 birds flushed while I pulled the string. Shit. The only good thing was a nice looks at a pygmy owl. Well, also, the bottom is filled with water in the bottom hole (duh, brain dead) The 1 bird we caught was # 2114, a 1992 baby
